Murphy’s Beau Answers Quayle
Vice President Dan Quayle blamed the Los Angeles riots on the breakdown of the American family, more specifically on Murphy Brown’s decision to have her child alone (“Quayle Deplores Eroding Values; Cites TV Show,” Section A, May 20). As the father of Murphy Brown’s child, I can say categorically that the riots in L.A. had nothing to do with my being in South America. And, while I wish I had been present at the birth, I defend Murphy’s choice to have her child alone.
What L.A. needs to go through now is a period of healing and reconstruction, and I would hope that the Administration would find ways to support us rather than to tear us down. ROBIN THOMAS
