SANTA CLARITA : Warrant Reissued Over Unpaid Ticket

A Newhall Municipal Court judge has reissued an arrest warrant and bail of $99,999 for a Humboldt County man who has failed to make good on a promise to pay for a 5-year-old traffic citation.

Judge Alan S. Rosenfield said Thursday that he reissued the arrest warrant after Michael Joseph Pommerening, 34, failed to meet an April 30 deadline to pay the 1987 ticket--a deadline Pommerening promised to make. The judge had offered to clear the entire matter from the books if Pommerening paid $138.60--a 30% discount from his original fine of $198.

Since Rosenfield first issued an arrest warrant for Pommerening in November, 1991, authorities in Humboldt County have stopped him at least four times for speeding and driving without insurance. But law enforcement officials failed to hold Pommerening because of a Superior Court order prohibiting jail overcrowding.

Rosenfield said he is not angry with Pommerening, but he is frustrated that the judicial system cannot bring him to Santa Clarita to clear up the matter.
