The largest graduating class in Irvine Valley College’s short history is expected to participate in commencement ceremonies Thursday.
More than 235 students will receive their diplomas at the seventh annual event, to be held at 6:30 p.m. in front of the Student Services Center. The college has seen its graduates increase from 128 in 1989 to 211 last year.
Commencement speakers will include Irvine Valley professor Steve Schroeder and student Therese Tibbits.
Tibbits, a re-entry student, works as an administrative consultant for pension plans at National Associates of Newport Beach, a division of Dunn & Bradstreet. Tibbits, whose speech will focus on using college skills throughout life, will graduate with an associate’s degree in economics.
Schroeder, co-coach of the Saddleback/Irvine Forensics Team that produced two national champions this year, will talk about commanding respect.
Class valedictorians are Ying-Chin Lin Wang of Irvine and Julia C. Gebauer of Mission Viejo. Call (714) 559-3277 for information.
