CIF Rules Servite Golfer Incorrectly Disqualified

The Servite golf team will compete in the Southern Section Championships after CIF officials ruled that a Servite player was incorrectly disqualified at the Western Regional Monday.
Servite’s Dennis Manzo was disqualified by officials at Royal Vista Golf Club after signing what was thought to be an incorrect scorecard. Manzo shot a six-over 78, but signed a card listing his total as 77.
Manzo’s hole-by-hole scoring was correct, which led Servite Coach Rich Smith to contact the Southern Section office for a clarification of the rule. On Tuesday, section officials determined from the rules of golf that because Manzo’s hole-by-hole total was correct, he could not be disqualified for an addition error.
With the allowance of Manzo’s score, Servite finished tied for second in the Western Regional with Palos Verdes Peninsula at 387 and earned a berth in Monday’s Southern Section team championship at Canyon Country Club in Palm Springs. The top three teams from each regional advance.
