WORLD IN BRIEF : IRELAND : Bishop Fathered Her Son, American Says

An American woman told Irish national radio that she is the mother of the teen-age son of Bishop Eamonn Casey, whose resignation was announced two days earlier. The woman, identified as Annie Murphy, 44, of Ridgefield, Conn., told RTE that Casey, 65, was the father of her 17-year-old son, Peter. Casey was said to be in New York and could not be reached for comment. The Catholic Information Office announced his resignation for undisclosed personal reasons late Wednesday amid reports that he had made payments to an American woman.
