NEW YORK — Pickles and ice cream were in order Friday when toy store FAO Schwarz unveiled what is believed to be the nation’s first pregnant doll.
Beneath her denim maternity dress, the $19.95-doll has a lift-off belly with a little plastic bundle of joy inside. When you remove the baby, the doll gets a board-flat stomach.
Critics, including child psychiatrist Gary Pagano of New York University School of Medicine, say the dolls give children a distorted perception of childbirth.
