L.A. Budget Woes
Even a non-city employee like me can see how outrageous is The Times’ suggestion that the city’s employees give up one day’s pay per month to ease L.A.’s fiscal crisis. The editorial “It’s Bad--and Getting Worse” (April 23) states that “new taxes make no sense in a recession.” That statement contradicts your proposal for city employees since you are in effect calling for a “right-to-work” tax for city employees. Bailing the city out should be the responsibility of all who benefit from its services; we can’t absolve ourselves of that responsibility by unfairly taxing city employees.
