COLLEGE TRACK
Northridge Open--Charlotte Vines of host Cal State Northridge won the women’s 100 meters in a wind-aided time of 11.50 seconds to highlight performances by the Matadors on Monday.
Vines, a junior from San Marcos High, defeated Alice Brown of the Southern California Cheetahs (11.61) in the process. Brown was the silver medalist in the 100 at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and set the Northridge record of 11.27 in 1980.
Vines’ time was her fastest ever and moved her to within 0.07 seconds of the automatic qualifying standard for the Division I championships in Austin, Tex., in June. She has exceeded or equaled the provisional standard of 11.80 four times this season.
Derek Scurry and Tanya Lynch were double winners for Northridge.
Scurry had wind-aided marks of 25 feet, 3 1/4 inches in the men’s long jump and 49-2 1/2 in the triple jump.
Lynch won the women’s long jump and triple jump with wind-aided marks of 18-10 1/4 and 41-4 1/4, respectively.
In other women’s events, Lisa Gill of Northridge cleared a personal best of 5-9 to win the high jump, and teammate Teresa Stricklin placed third in the shotput with a personal best of 45-7 1/2.
The Matadors’ Michael Smith won the men’s 800 in 1 minute 52.2 seconds, and Marc Harisay placed fourth in the shotput with a mark of 56-3 1/4.
