VENTURA : Police Question Suspects in Slaying

Ventura homicide detectives questioned several people Monday in connection with the weekend slaying of a 16-year-old Port Hueneme boy, which police believe was gang-related.
Detectives aren’t sure which of the suspects, all members of the Ventura Avenue Gangsters, may have fatally stabbed Jose Lopez Navarro as he ran from Camino Real Park in the early morning hours Sunday, Sgt. Bob Anderson said.
“Three to six people set upon this guy, and one or more of them were armed with knives,” Anderson said.
“The information changes as we go along.”
Police hope to make an arrest today, Anderson said.
Detectives learned that Navarro and five friends who were with him in the park are members of a rival gang, the Oxnard Loma Flats.
Anderson said Navarro did not instigate the altercation that led to his death.
He refused to comment on the motive.
