TECHNOLOGY : AST Research Markets First in Series of Computers in New Product Line

AST Research Inc. has rolled out the first in a series of new computer models intended to remake the company’s product line during the next six months.
The Irvine personal computer maker’s Power Premium upgradeable computers are powered by computer chips supplied by Western Digital Corp. in Irvine. The chips accelerate the speed of graphics functions in the computer, enabling it to run Microsoft Windows software faster, the company said.
Safi Qureshey, co-chairman, said two weeks ago that the company would revamp its product line to stay competitive in the rapidly changing PC business.
