Art Thieves Kill 2 in Ukraine Gallery
Reuters
MOSCOW — Thieves in the Ukrainian city of Lvov shot two people to death Wednesday while stealing paintings from an art gallery, the Russian news agency Itar-Tass reported.
Two men set off smoke bombs in the gallery and stole three 19th-Century Polish paintings in the ensuing confusion but ran into two gallery officials as they fled.
The thieves gunned down the two men, one of whom died at the scene and the other later in hospital. The gallery’s guards were unarmed and could not prevent the theft, Tass said.
