IRVINE — An 80-year-old Santa Ana woman was listed in critical condition late Tuesday after her vehicle collided head-on with another car, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Eloise Benson was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana after the 6:35 p.m. collision on Irvine Boulevard west of Sand Canyon Avenue, CHP Officer Angel Johnson said.
Benson was being treated for broken legs, ribs, arms, ankles and nose, Johnson said.
Witnesses told CHP investigators that Benson was driving west about 50 m.p.h. in the eastbound lane of Irvine Boulevard. The second driver in the collision, Marjorie Dillman, 28, of Lake Forest, told investigators that she saw Benson at the last minute and jammed on her brakes.
But Dillman’s brakes locked and her car swerved into Benson’s, the CHP said. Dillman suffered some cuts to her face and said she had pain in her arms and legs. She was treated at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.
