ITT Sheraton Offers New Rate Structure: On the heels of similar moves by the airline and car rental industries, ITT Sheraton Corp. announced a “simplified” three-tier rate structure for its 300 domestic hotels. Compared to the old prices, the Boston-based hotel chain said, its “SureSavers” prices are up to 50% cheaper for vacationers and up to 30% less for business travelers. For example, under the old system the price of a hotel room at the Sheraton New York in Manhattan was $219 per night. The new overnight rate is $169 for business travelers, $159 for Sunday-Thursday stays reserved two weeks in advance, and $109 for an unrestricted weekend night stay. Pamela Hanlon, an ITT spokeswoman, said the chain will continue to offer most discounts for groups and will heavily market the three-tier system, which she said meets most consumer needs. Hanlon said the hotel chain had been studying the rate change since December.
