Raffles Reminiscences

What a shocker! Four hundred and fifty dollars a day for a suite at the new Raffles (“Face Lift Leaves Clubby Old Raffles a Bit Tight,” March 22). And getting abused by the staff besides.
I stayed at the Raffles for four days between ships in 1968. In my diary I mentioned visiting a shipmate in another hotel room and remarked what a difference there was in an $8-a-day room and a $14-a-day room, which is apparently what mine was.
