West Los Angeles : New Police Interview Room

Officers at the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Los Angeles Station have turned a grim interrogation room into a visitor-friendly interview and waiting area for victims of rape and sex crimes, LAPD Detective Paul Bishop said.

Helped by $2,000 in money and materials from local merchants and other contributors, the officers donated much of the labor required to install wallpaper, carpeting and other improvements.

Instead of the standard steel desk and hard chairs, the room is furnished with two comfortable chairs and a coffee table.

“We were tired of interviewing rape and child abuse victims in the hostile environment of our three interrogation rooms,” Bishop said shortly before the room was dedicated at a brief ceremony Wednesday attended by those who helped pay for it.
