Sunday in the Park With Jazz
Jazz blows into the tiny community of Oak Park on Sunday when singer Joe Williams, Tommy Newsom and the Wind Syndicate, featuring Ray Pizzi, play at the Oak Park Music & Fine Arts Festival at Brookside School. Proceeds will benefit the elementary school’s fine arts and music programs.
The outdoor concert--which kicks off at 1 p.m.--includes performances by the Agoura High School Jazz Band and DNA, a Latin-fusion sextet.
A variety of art activities, including student exhibits, will also be showcased on the event grounds.
There is an extra musical point of interest in that the ever-humble and elegant saxophonist Newsom is winding up his long tenure in the best gig in jazz--as part of the Tonight Show Band. It’s the end of an era.
Brookside School is at 165 N. Satinwood Ave. Tickets are $5, $2.50 for students. For information, call (818) 597-9267.
