GLENDORA : Woman Dies Week After Being Swept Into River
- Share via
An 18-year-old Fontana woman has died a week after being swept four miles along the swift waters of the San Gabriel River north of Glendora.
Gail Ortega, who had been on a San Gabriel Mountains hiking trip with friends from her church group, slipped when crossing the East Fork of the San Gabriel River in a remote area of the Angeles National Forest. She was rescued unconscious and died over the weekend at Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora, hospital officials said.
Ortega’ death was the first attributed to rain- and runoff-swollen streams since a 15-year-old Woodland Hills boy, Adam Paul Bischoff, died in the Los Angeles River during heavy storms in February.
