Digital, Microsoft in New Venture: Digital Equipment Corp. and Microsoft Corp. will join forces to develop a version of Microsoft’s popular Windows software for super-fast computers that Digital will start selling later this year, a source said. The alliance would cement a budding relationship between the world’s second-largest computer maker and the leading software developer. Digital and Microsoft have been moving closer for months after Microsoft’s acrimonious divorce from IBM. An industry source, speaking anonymously, said Microsoft will announce Friday that it will work jointly with Digital to develop the new version of Windows.
