Scott Richardson drove in eight runs to tie a school record and Cal State Northridge set a school record for runs and margin of victory Saturday in a 30-1 romp over Southern Utah at Northridge.
Richardson, a junior second baseman, went three for six, including a grand slam and a three-run home run. Shawn Noonan set the record in 1975.
In completing a three-game sweep, Northridge (29-7-1) outscored Southern Utah (4-38), a non-scholarship Division I program, 63-5, and outhit the Thunderbirds, 55-15.
Northridge, which sent at least nine men to the plate in an inning three times, broke school records of 29 runs and a 27-run margin of victory established against Whittier in 1985.
After hitting 10 home runs in a doubleheader Friday, the Matadors hit six more Saturday, including a pair by designated hitter Scott Mowl, who homered twice for the second consecutive game. Mowl and Greg Shepard each had four hits and drove in five and six runs, respectively.
