Hart 7, Crescenta Valley 2--John Aguilar was three for four, including a solo home run, with four RBIs as Hart (12-2) advanced to the consolation final of the Babe Herman tournament at Hoover High. Doug Distaso pitched a four-hitter with four strikeouts and also racked up his 18th stolen base.
Westlake 1, Royal 0--David Hayes drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk on a full-count pitch in the bottom of the seventh to force in the winning run in a championship semifinal of the Glendale tournament.
Royal’s Paul Tayor, who yielded only two hits and struck out five, was the hard-luck loser. John Snyder (3-2) struck out 13 and walked four to earn the win.
Burroughs 5, Glendale 4--Run-scoring singles by Dave Cantella and Jay Martinson gave visiting Burroughs the lead for good in the sixth inning of a third-round game in the Babe Herman tournament.
Oak Park 4, Cabrillo 1--Senior right-hander Jeff Gibbons finally allowed an earned run after 40 innings this season, but the Eagles won the championship of the Santa Ynez tournament.
El Camino Real 4, Cleveland 1--Jason Sipperley pitched a two-hitter and struck out 10 for host El Camino Real in the Northwest Valley Conference game.
San Fernando 3, Chatsworth 2 (nine innings)--Jorge Rivera’s bases-loaded chopper to second scored Javier Lujan with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth in a Northwest Valley Conference game.
Kennedy 9, Reseda 8--Host Kennedy scored seven first-inning runs in the Northwest Valley Conference game and held on to win.
Grant 15, Canoga Park 10--Peter Chong had three hits and four RBIs, and Justin Howard had three hits and scored four runs for visiting Grant in the Valley Pac-8 Conference game. Luis Meza led Canoga Park (2-10, 1-7) with a grand slam and five RBIs.
Poly 4, Birmingham 1--Eric Diaz (4-2) pitched a four-hitter and host Poly (9-4, 6-2) won a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
Verdugo Hills 12, Belmont 0--Richard Lucero and Matt Ward hit home runs for the Dons in a Northeastern League game.
Van Nuys 18, North Hollywood 6--Patrick Alvarado went four for five with three RBIs, and Alex Alvarenga, Enrique de la Cueva and Rufugio Pulido each had three hits for the Wolves (6-6, 3-5) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
St. Francis 9, La Salle 1--Paul Silva pitched five scoreless innings and Adrian Lelea had three hits for St. Francis (5-9, 4-0) in a San Fernando League game.
Saugus 6, Yucaipa 1--Bobby Cowan and John Maggiora combined on a six-hitter as Saugus (10-3-1) won the fifth-place game of the Coachella Valley tournament in Palm Desert.
In Wednesday’s early game, Saugus beat Indio, 11-5. Chris Hernandez had three hits, including a home run, and Jayme Riggio hit a grand slam.
Village Christian 8, Whittier Christian 7 (eight innings)--Mike Rieger scattered six hits over eight innings and Village Christian (8-6) rallied to win a consolation game in the Santa Barbara tournament.
BOYS’ TRACK
Ventura 79, Buena 57--Zaylore Stout and Devon Passno won three events each for Ventura (6-0, 5-0) in the Channel League meet.
Stout tied teammate Dam McCashin for first in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.1 seconds. He also finished first in the high jump (6 feet 3 inches) and the triple jump (41-9 1/2).
Passno timed 11.4 in the 100, 23.7 in the 200, and spanned 20-0 in the long jump.
SOFTBALL
Notre Dame 6, St. Bernard 2--Susan Gulliver and Jennifer Curiel each had two hits to lead the Knights (7-5, 4-0) in a Mission League game at St. Bernard.
