The three, four and five hitters came up with even better numbers for St. Augustine at the conclusion of the 42nd annual Lions/Mike Morrow Tournament on Wednesday.

St. Augustine won the A Division baseball title with a 12-0 victory over Lincoln at Hickman Field in Clairemont, giving the Saints, the defending champion, its second championship in three years. Last year the tournament was rained out.

Because of the tournament’s 12-run rule, the game was called in the fifth inning after the Saints scored six runs. St. Augustine (14-2) picked up 11 hits, held the Hornets to two. Saints senior Marco Inzunza doubled and drove in two runs.

Among the numbers that most impressed St. Augustine Coach Mike Stephenson was .583, the batting average that Memo Lopez, John Mozerka and Craig Da Luz strung together in four days of play. Combined, they were 28 for 48, scored 26 runs and drove in 25 more for the tournament.

Junior shortstop Lopez was eight for 16, scored seven runs and drove in 10. All of his hits were extra-bases: five doubles, two triples and a home run.

Senior center fielder Mozerka was 11 for 16, scored nine runs and knocked in 11, and junior third baseman Da Luz, was nine for 18, with 10 runs scored and five RBIs.

Lopez also picked up his first and second wins.

In the 3-2 semifinal victory against La Jolla, Lopez entered the game in the sixth inning and gave up a run, but he scored the winning run for his team in the bottom of the seventh with one out. Paul Hernandez tripled and Dominic Giammarinaro singled to drive in Lopez. Lopez also had a solo home run in the second inning against the Vikings.

In the other semifinal, Lincoln took a 4-2 decision over Clairemont.

Shawn McKinney was two for three with the game-winning RBI single in the fourth inning. McKinney also stole a base. The Hornets fell to 7-8.
