Roger Kingdom, the world record-holder in the 110-meter hurdles, returned to competition after 1 1/2 years, finishing second to Elbert Ellis at a meet in Miami. Ellis was clocked in 13.86 seconds and Kingdom at 13.87.
Kingdom, trying to regain his form to make the 1992 Olympic team, underwent a unique operation in September when a tendon from a cadaver was used to repair his damaged anterior cruciate ligament. It was his first competition since Sept. 14, 1990.
