Phil Nevin drove in three runs, two of them with his 15th homer, leading Cal State Fullerton to a 4-3 nonconference victory over Cal Poly Pomona Wednesday at Amerige Park.
Mike Parisi (2-0) pitched eight innings, allowing two home runs to Brian Mena, a former standout at Golden West College and Huntington Beach High, and a third to Chris Hunt, a Orange Lutheran graduate. Paco Chavez pitched the ninth for his second save.
In Golden State Athletic Conference softball:
Southern California College 9-2, Christ College Irvine 4-2--Shannon Moreno’s two-run single keyed a six-run eighth inning for the Vanguards in the opener.
Stephanie Wills drove in Shannon Saylor with the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth in the second game, but the Eagles (2-22-1, 0-8-1) combined two hits and a sacrifice for the tying run in a game called after six innings because of darkness at Christ College Irvine. Southern California College is 14-5-1, 6-1-1.
