Torrance’s Kendall Sets RBI Record, Is Named State Prep Athlete of Week
- Share via
Torrance High catcher Jason Kendall, who extended his state-record hitting streak to 40 games and set a school record for most runs batted in in a game, has been named state high school athlete of the week by Cal-Hi Sports newsletter.
Kendall drove in eight runs Friday in a 14-0 Pioneer League victory over North Torrance. The senior tripled in his first at-bat, hit a three-run home run in his second, and later doubled and hit a grand slam.
His eight RBI broke the school record held by his father, Fred, a former major league catcher.
Kendall missed an opportunity to extend his hitting streak when Wednesday’s Pioneer League game between Torrance and West Torrance was rained out. The game has been rescheduled for 3 p.m. today at West.
