Track Competition Steep for CSUN
It is early in the season, but today’s quadrangular track and field meet among Cal State Northridge, Stanford, UC Irvine and host USC could have a big impact on Track & Field News’ national dual-meet rankings at the end of the season. The men’s meet will feature teams ranked Nos. 9-12 in the District 8 Coaches’ Assn. preseason poll.
Senior Ryan Vierra, competing in the shotput, discus and hammer throw, will lead 10th-ranked Northridge.
Senior Quincy Watts will run anchor legs on the 400- and 1,600-meter relays for 12th-ranked USC. Watts, a three-time state sprint champion at Taft High, was the No. 10-ranked 400 sprinter in the world in 1991 by Track & Field News.
Irvine is ranked No. 9 and Stanford is 11th.
Charlotte Vines of Northridge will run in the 100, 200 and 400 relay. Teammate Kim Young will compete in the long jump and the 100- and 400 low hurdles.
The meet will begin at noon. The hammer throw will be held at West L.A. College at 11 a.m.
