Israeli Troops Kill Soldier in Security Zone
Reuters
JERUSALEM — Israeli troops on routine patrol killed a Lebanese soldier in Israel’s self-proclaimed security zone in southern Lebanon, breaking a lull in the fighting there, military sources said Friday.
Israel expressed regret over the soldier’s death in the 9-mile-wide buffer zone. The shooting appeared to be a mistake, security sources said.
The Lebanese army stayed out of the fighting last week when Israeli tank-led troops thrust out of the security zone into two villages to stop Hezbollah guerrilla rocket attacks.
