A TWA jetliner with 185 people aboard landed safely at Los Angeles International Airport on Monday after its pilot shut down one of three engines, an FAA spokeswoman reported.
TWA Flight 814, bound for John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, left Los Angeles moments before the pilot discovered the problem with an engine on the right wing, said spokeswoman Elly Brekke of the Federal Aviation Administration. The L-1011 aircraft landed safely at 9:54 a.m., Brekke said, and the cause of the problem is under investigation.
