Army Secretary Michael P.W. Stone has blocked the Strategic Defense Command’s dismissal of a veteran Pentagon scientist and ordered a review of the case. Stone put Aldric Saucier, a $75,500-a-year civilian scientist, back on the payroll on adminstrative leave status while the two-week review is conducted, Army spokesman Col. Don Kirchoffner said. The action came after House Government Operations Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) charged that the firing was an apparent case of “retaliation” by Saucier’s military superiors.
