HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Campbell Hall Romps, 76-37
Austin McKellar had 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to lead Campbell Hall High past Valley Torah, 76-37, Thursday in the first round of the Southern Section Division V-AA boys’ basketball playoffs at Campbell Hall.
Taylor Williams scored 15 points for Campbell Hall (14-10). C. J. Tompkins had 10 points and 10 assists and Scott Glass added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Vikings led, 44-19, at halftime and increased their lead to 64-26 after three quarters. Valley Torah finished 6-6.
In other boys’ basketball games:
North Hollywood 74, Van Nuys 53--Robert Hill scored a game-high 22 points to lead host North Hollywood (23-1, 10-0) in a Mid-Valley League make-up game.
Damon Ollie added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Huskies.
Eagle Rock 70, Verdugo Hills 59--Chan Cornish scored 21 points and Eddie Powell added 11 for host Verdugo Hills (10-9, 4-4), which was outscored, 21-10, in the fourth quarter of a Northern Conference game.
Cleveland 62, Granada Hills 58--Shawn Bankhead scored 20 points to lead host Cleveland (8-13, 5-4) in a North Valley League make-up game. Jeremy DeGracia added 12 points and Edtwaun Adams had 10 for Cleveland, which led, 33-21, at halftime. Shelton Simmons scored 16 points for Granada Hills (3-17, 0-9).
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Reseda 54, El Camino 52 (OT)--Arvis Darvarpanah and Sha-Ron Walker each scored 10 points to lead visiting Reseda (11-3, 7-1) in a Northwest Valley League game.
Paulette Melina scored 21 points for El Camino (7-2 in league play). The game was rescheduled because of rain, and the teams will play again tonight at Reseda.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Lynwood 1, Hart 0--A goal in the 39th minute of a Southern Section 3-A Division first-round match led to the end of the season for Hart (11-5-8).
Oak Park 4, Santa Maria St. Joseph 2--Mike Michaud scored three goals and Aaron Bettendorf added another for host Oak Park (13-2-3) in a first-round game in the Small Schools Division.
Oak Park had 27 shots on goal to four for St. Joseph, which scored twice on direct kicks.
Sierra Vista 3, Calabasas 1 (OT)--Santa Barbara scored twice in overtime to end Calabasas’ season in a Southern Section 1-A Division playoff opener at Sierra Vista.
El Monte 4, Santa Clara 1--Visiting El Monte dominated the 1-A Division playoff opener.
Chatsworth 5, Cleveland 0--Dan Nash, Billy Strong, Erik Ruvalcaba, George Buery, and Ruben Villagrana each scored for host Chatsworth (6-3-3, 5-3-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference match.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Calabasas 3, Saugus 1--Karen Levenberg, Angie Marra and Mariah Ventre each scored for host Calabasas in a first-round game in Division II-A.
HIGH SCHOOL GOLF
City Section 5-A Division match--Taft’s Garrick Moss and Sheldon Mink each shot even-par 37 to share medalist honors at Woodley Golf Course.
Artie Weiner (Taft), Kevin Kurhajec (Granada Hills), and Kory Karpin (Grant) each finished two shots back at 39.
