Countywide : Baggerly May Join Sweeney Campaign
Russell Baggerly, an active Ventura County environmentalist before he became a top aide to Supervisor Maria VanderKolk last year, may take a leave of absence from the county to join the political campaign of Kevin Sweeney.
Sweeney, who is seeking the Democratic nomination to run for Congress against incumbent Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley), said Thursday that Baggerly will decide Monday whether he can help with Sweeney’s November election bid.
Sweeney said that Baggerly, who is fluent in Spanish and has been a county resident for almost 20 years, would be an asset to his political campaign. “I can’t think of anyone I trust more than Russ Baggerly,” Sweeney said. “He knows how to get things done, and he knows the county.”
Sweeney said Baggerly is waiting to make his decision until after he has evaluated personal considerations, including whether his benefits as a county employee would continue during the leave.
