Debate Over School Vouchers

We applaud the thoughtful perspective on vouchers by the LEARN working group and share their apprehension on the “choice” initiative.
The voucher initiative calls for tax revenues to follow the child to any school, public or private, including parochial schools. This raises a serious constitutional question and violates principles of church-state separation.
In keeping with Women’s American ORT’s (Organization for Rehabilitation Through Training) longstanding commitment to quality public education and our concern over church-state violations, the Pacific Southwest District opposes the California Voucher Initiative.
