Weiss Asks Justice to Probe Dow-Corning: Rep. Ted Weiss (D-N.Y.), who chairs a House subcommittee with jurisdiction over the Food and Drug Administration, wants the Justice Department to investigate evidence that Dow-Corning Corp. may have broken federal laws in selling its silicone gel breast implants. Weiss said a review of hundreds of pages of Dow-Corning documents “presents substantial evidence that the company may have misbranded the device, withheld relevant safety information, failed to report serious risks associated with the device and or misrepresented their safety data regarding silicone gel breast implants for more than 15 years.” Justice officials were unavailable for comment. Dow-Corning has said it believes the implants are safe.
