COUNTERPUNCH LETTERS : When Is Elvis Dead?
In response to Keith A. Sheldon’s query as to why people are still asking, “Is Elvis Dead? And Why Aren’t the Media Sure?” (Feb. 10), I think it’s appropriate to quote the late Jimi Hendrix, who had the prescience to make these observations:
“They’re selfish, that’s why people get so sad when someone dies, they haven’t finished using him yet. Sometimes you have to die before they think that you are worth anything. It’s funny the way most people love the dead. Once you’re dead, you’ve got it made for life.”
And, I might add, the media have their own $elfish reason$.
