COLLEGE BASKETBALL : PACIFIC 10 ROUNDUP : Stanford Gets Back on Track

Adam Keefe scored 32 points as Stanford made a season-best 59.6% of its shots in an 86-73 Pacific 10 Conference victory over Arizona State Saturday at Stanford.

Peter Dukes made four of six three-point shots and finished with 15 points for Stanford (13-5, 5-4).

The Cardinal was coming off Thursday night’s 72-70 defeat to No. 7 Arizona that came on a last-second lay-up by Khalid Reeves. The winning shot was set up when Stanford’s Brent Williams was called for a lane violation with the score tied and Keefe at the free-throw line with five seconds left.

“I saw in it in their warm-ups. They had fire in their eyes,” Arizona State Coach Bill Frieder said of Stanford. “What happened to them on Thursday, losing a game they should have won, you wonder if they would come back and play, but they did and that’s a tribute to them.”

Mario Bennett scored 18 points for Arizona State (12-9, 3-6), which has lost four of five.

Stanford led by as many 18 points midway through the second half.

Oregon 64, Oregon State 63--Antoine Stoudamire scored 34 points and made one of two free throws with 29 seconds left to give the Ducks the victory at Eugene.

Oregon (6-12, 2-7) has beaten Oregon State (11-11, 3-6) five times in their last 30 games.

After Stoudamire’s free throw, Oregon twice kept the Beavers at bay with non-shooting fouls.

Oregon State’s Pat Strickland missed a jump shot with three seconds left and Scott Haskin’s dunk attempt off a rebound bounced away as the horn sounded.

Stoudamire made 14 of 21 shots, including three three-point shots.
