Wrong-Way Driver Held After Crash
A Palmdale man was arrested Saturday after he drove in the wrong direction for more than five miles on the Golden State Freeway and then collided with another vehicle in Santa Clarita, authorities said.
Dennis Dickson, 35, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after the 7:30 p.m. accident near the McBean Parkway exit, the California Highway Patrol said. Dickson drove south in the northbound lanes from Magic Mountain until he collided with a Jaguar driven by Lomita resident Edward Gunderson, 52, who managed to reduce the impact by swerving, the CHP said.
Neither driver was injured, said CHP Officer Michelle Fink, and Dickson was in police custody pending blood tests for alcohol.
“He appears to be intoxicated. He told us he’s on the Antelope Valley Freeway in Palmdale, which is about 25 miles away,” Fink said.
