Land Developers Unfairly Criticized

I can never understand letters such as that from Dawn Aberg of Huntington Beach (“With Luck, Irvine Co. Layoffs May Prove More Than Momentary Setback,” Feb. 2) complaining about real estate developers--in this case the Irvine Co.--utilizing land to create places for people to live and to shop.
Ms. Aberg’s city of Huntington Beach had 915 residents in 1909 when the city was incorporated on a former Spanish land grant. Today, the population of Huntington Beach is 182,783.
Unless Ms. Aberg’s family was part of the original 915, I would say that, as a resident of Huntington Beach, she is taking advantage of and benefiting from real estate development.
