PREP ROUNDUP : Canyon Pins Loss on Orange in Wrestling

The Canyon wrestling team won its 12th consecutive Century League title by defeating Orange, 67-1, Thursday at Canyon.
Dave Cha and Jared Merrill had pins for Canyon (13-0, 5-0 in league), which extended its dual-meet winning streak to 85. Canyon hasn’t lost a dual meet since 1986 and hasn’t lost a league meet since 1980.
In Angelus League girls’ soccer:
Walnut 2, Mater Dei 1--Katie Ward tied the score with about a minute left in the first half for Mater Dei (18-2-2, 6-1-1), ranked No. 3 in Division 4-A. But No. 6 Walnut (7-0-1 in league) scored midway through the second half to win and move into first place.
In Century League girls’ soccer:
El Modena 1, Villa Park 0--Sophomore forward Kristy Hales made a steal and scored three minutes into the match for host El Modena (6-5-5, 4-0-4), which remains in second place, a point behind Canyon.
In Empire League girls’ soccer:
Esperanza 3, El Dorado 2--Diana Guy kicked the winning goal three minutes into injury time for host Esperanza (11-6-4, 6-1-1).
Los Alamitos 3, Cypress 2--The Griffins (12-4-4, 7-0-1) erased a 2-1 halftime deficit with second-half goals from Elizabeth Willemse and Amanda Peterson.
