In the World Travel Watch column of Jan. 5, your reporters listed “Commonwealth of Independent States” and made it appear as if it were a country. The whole purpose of declaring their independence was for each former Soviet republic to finally get individual recognition. We have no problems referring to Great Britain, Canada and Australia by individual names, so why not call Russia, Belarus and Ukraine by theirs?
