Border Patrol’s Actions Attacked and Defended
Kurt Disser has his car searched by U.S. Border Patrol agents 15 times in 17 months because he fits the “profile” of an illegal drug runner (“Interstate 5 Checkpoint Tactics Are Under Fire,” Jan. 27), and (Border Patrol) spokesman Steve Kean says agents and supervisors “don’t even have any personal, independent recognition of his name.”
This is harassment, plain and simple. Or, it happens to other innocent people so often (66 miles inside the border, no less) that the Border Patrol agents don’t care whose privacy rights they’re violating.
What’s next? Searching people’s homes without a warrant because they “look” like drug runners? Incredible.
