Sneaks ’92 1/2

Silly me! How foolish I was to actually have hopes that Hollywood could produce a movie that would simply follow the original book. I am referring to James Fenimore Cooper’s “The Last of the Mohicans” and the upcoming film described in “Sneaks ’92.”
Unfortunately, anyone who sees the movie (not having read the story) will not know that it was actually about the French and Indian War--not the Revolutionary War--and that the English general’s daughter, Cora, was in love with a Mohican Indian, not Hawkeye.
There is a racial thing here, guys. It was good enough for the 1800s. Is it too hot a topic to handle for the 1990s?

For the record, “Sneaks ‘92” incorrectly identified the war in which the movie is set; indeed, it will follow Cooper’s setting of the French and Indian War. A 20th Century Fox spokeswoman confirms, however, that Cora’s love interest will be Hawkeye, the character played by Daniel Day Lewis.
