An off-duty police officer was arrested for reportedly hitting a man with his handgun after a traffic dispute escalated into a fight, police said.
Alonzo Alexander, 27, a San Diego police officer, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly hit Jesse Smith, 26, on the head during a fight, police said. Alexander was released Thursday from County Jail.
The fight apparently stemmed from a traffic dispute that took place in the 4500 block of Otay Valley Road.
Smith was arrested on suspicion of battery and released on his own recognizance, police said. He suffered a cut on his head, and Alexander received scrapes and bruises on his head and hands.
