The Hand Prop Room is a longtime haunt of set decorators, prop masters and stylists, but you don’t have to be in the biz to peruse its gallery of original artwork and replicas, table-top frames, lamps, chandeliers and art books.
You can buy or rent a pair of amber alabaster French lamps from Shirley MacLaine’s bedroom in “Postcards From the Edge,” brass and opaline glass sconces from the TV series “Coach” or Sylvester Stallone’s “Oscar” pinkie ring. For the walls, there are replicas of Tamara De Lempicka abstract nudes (“Rockateer”) and Marine-in-action-themed watercolors (CBS’ “Major Dad”).
Weekly rental fees on some items start as low as $8, says Nicki Cohen, who oversees the gallery and tracks the show-biz credits of the 3,000 or so artworks and 1,000 lamps. Purchase prices run $50 and up.
The Hand Prop Room, 5700 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles; (213) 931-1534.
