A 3-year-old boy was killed and his 4-year-old sister was injured Tuesday afternoon when the car in which they were riding ran a red light and was struck by a pickup truck at an intersection in Scripps Ranch, authorities said.
The accident happened about 4:30 p.m. at the corner of Pomerado Road and Semillon Boulevard, a San Diego Police spokeswoman said.
The sedan in which the children were riding--unrestrained by either seat belts or car seats--ran a red light in a left-turn lane and was struck by a pickup, the spokeswoman said.
The names of the children were not released, and the names of the drivers were not available late Tuesday.
A spokesman for the San Diego County medical examiner’s office said the parents were vacationing in London and had not been reached Tuesday night.
The girl was treated and released Tuesday night at Sharp Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
