Stich, Lendl Suffer First-Round Upsets at Sydney

Top-seeded Michael Stich and second-seeded Ivan Lendl were eliminated from the New South Wales Open tennis tournament in the first round Tuesday at Sydney, Australia. Stich lost to wild-card entry Todd Woodbridge, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Lendl joined the Wimbledon champion on the sidelines, losing to Richard Krajicek of the Netherlands, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
Stich, ranked fourth in the world, dropped six of his last seven service games to Woodbridge, the hometown favorite from Sydney.
