An unidentified man who was struck by a drunk driver in Imperial Beach died at UC San Diego Medical Center, officials said.
The man, who was Latino and reportedly in his 20s, was struck by a car as he tried to cross the 1500 block of Imperial Beach Boulevard about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson said. The man was hit by the car’s left fender and was then forced through the windshield, as the driver continued west for about 200 feet.
The man was taken to UCSD Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead less than an hour later, the county medical examiner’s office said.
Police arrested the driver at the scene and released him with a misdemeanor warrant for driving under the influence, Robinson said.
