THE LAST DAYS OF YUGOSLAVIA

We appreciated the excellent article by Carol Williams (“The Last Days of Yugoslavia,” Nov. 24) but were dismayed at her reference to the Croats as having “sided with Nazi Germany” in World War II. The truth is that the Croatian people had a puppet regime imposed upon them by the Nazis. This Ustasha regime was responsible for many brutal crimes against the local population and ethnic minorities. However, it needs to be stressed that Croatia had a strong anti-fascist resistance movement, and many people in the present Croatian government were members of it.
