KEVIN COSTNER, who plays New Orleans district attorney Jim Garrison in the Oliver Stone film “JFK,” has purchased a get-away home in Santa Barbara County.
Costner also stars as Robin of Locksley in “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves,” which grossed $165.5 million between its June release and November, making it the second top grossing film for the year, after “Terminator 2.”
Among Costner’s previous credits were starring roles in the Oscar winning “Dances With Wolves,” which he also directed and co-produced; “Field of Dreams,” “Bull Durham” and “The Untouchables.”
Costner’s permanent residence is in the foothills near Glendale.
His get-away home is a five-bedroom, 6,000-square-foot-plus house in a gated community just south of Montecito. He paid about $3 million for it, sources say.
The contemporary, wood-and-glass building, fronting a famous surfing area, is long and narrow and has been described as looking like a whale from the outside.
The year-old home has a guest suite with its own entrance, two children’s bedrooms and a large master bedroom with a 40-foot deck facing the ocean. Costner and his wife, Cindy, have three children.
The beach home had been listed with Susan Burns and Mitch Morehart of Pitts & Bachmann. Neither was reached for comment.
SAMMY DAVIS JR.’s Beverly Hills home has closed escrow at $2,715,000, the offer by a Beverly Hills surgeon that was confirmed last month in court.
The gated, 1.25-acre estate--with a seven-bedroom, 10,900-square-foot main house, a pool house and a separate structure that Davis called his “gourmet kitchen”--had been appraised at $3.5 million.
The entertainer, who died in the home last May, had owned the property since the early ‘70s. Built in 1938, the house had been remodeled but was said to be in need of “some modernizing.”
The sale is expected to help cover Davis’ $5.3 million-plus in taxes, mortgage payments and other debts.
Anna Windland with Hurwitz-James Co. represented the buyer, and Elaine Hunt, Spinello Realty, and Judi Hannes, Jon Douglas Co., co-listed the property.
LOU DIAMOND PHILLIPS’ charity “Winds of Life,” which the actor co-founded to address Native Americans’ concerns, has been given some office space in Century City at 1901 Avenue of the Stars.
In the spirit of the season, Headquarters Company, which provides secretarial services and executive suites to the likes of Ronald Reagan and Marvin Davis, donated its services and 250 square feet of its office space to Phillips’ organization.
GEORGE SANTO PIETRO, husband of “Wheel of Fortune” letter-turner Vanna White, has put his bachelor home in the Beverly Hills area on the market at $1.2 million.
Santo Pietro owns a chain of restaurants in Los Angeles and is also a dealer in exotic cars.
He married White a year ago New Year’s Eve in Aspen, Colo., where they have a pied-a-terre, and they bought a house near his bachelor home last fall for about $3 million.
His bachelor home has three bedrooms and a den in about 3,000 square feet. The Santa Fe-style house is reached at the end of a long drive.
Phil Boroda and Gary Velis of Coldwell Banker, Beverly Hills, share the listing.
