Terry Mann
School: Sunny Hills High
Sport: Basketball
Position: Center
Class: Senior
In his previous two seasons as a starter, Mann was one of many standouts on teams that continued Sunny Hills’ string of four consecutive Freeway League titles. This season, as the team’s only returning starter, Mann has had to do more on his own. “He’s doing what we hoped he would do,” Sunny Hills Coach Steve White said. “This year, the burden is on him a little bit and he’s done extremely well.” In three Brea-Olinda tournament games last week, Mann averaged 29 points as the Lancers advanced to the championship game against Cerritos Gahr Monday. In Saturday’s 61-45 semifinal victory over Troy, Mann had 31 points and 16 rebounds. Entering the tournament, Mann, 6 feet 7, who won the Southern Section Division 2-A high jump title, was averaging 23 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked shots.
Other top performers:
* Darren Gravley, who averaged 17.5 points as Laguna Beach went 3-1 in the Orange Holiday Classic, a run that included upsets of Ocean View, Long Beach Wilson and Marina.
* Vincent Laguana, who scored a school-record 47 points in Cypress’ 80-64 victory over Los Amigos in the Century tournament.
* Justin McIntee, who scored a tournament-record 43 points in Newport Harbor’s 76-75 victory over Hanford in the Coast Christmas Classic.
* Hector Perez, who scored two goals in Santa Ana’s 4-2 victory over Ocean View in the championship match of the Orange soccer tournament.
