COMMUNITY COLLEGE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL : Bickel, Harney Provide Punch in Golden West’s 84-65 Victory

Sophomore Allison Bickel scored 17 points and Jennifer Harney had 15 as Golden West defeated Glendale, 84-65, in the first round of the Grossmont women’s basketball tournament in El Cajon.
Frances Oda scored 13, Jenny Sullivan 11 and Cossette Smith and Tracy Wolfe 10 each for Golden West, the two-time defending state champions.
Sullivan had a game-high 13 rebounds and Harney had 10 rebounds for Golden West (13-3), which plays Utah Valley today at 5 p.m.
Utah Valley is the fifth-ranked team in the nation in the National Junior College Assn. poll.
In the Fullerton tournament:
Antelope Valley 61, Fullerton 56--Hollie Keeton scored 28 points and had 10 rebounds before fouling out, but Fullerton fell in the first-round game. Keeton, a sophomore from Katella High School, was 11 for 21 from the field and six for 11 from the free-throw line.
Monique Grace had 10 and was the only Fullerton player besides Keeton in double figures.
Charley Johnson and Paula Page each scored 21 points for Antelope Valley, which plays Chaffey at 5:15 p.m. today in a championship quarterfinal. The tournament continues Sunday with the title game at 4 p.m.
Fullerton fell to the consolation quarterfinals, in which the Hornets play Fresno at 1:45 p.m. today.
