Nathan Smooke, 82, a real estate industrialist and collector of 20th-Century art who served as a trustee of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and was a founding member of the Museum of Contemporary Art. Born in New York, Smooke came to Los Angeles in 1933 and founded a food manufacturing company. In 1965 he started Wellman Properties, which developed industrial land throughout California.
